Convene was very excited to hear that our client, the DVLA, was hosting a second coding challenge for children between the ages of 7 to 14. And we couldn’t miss the opportunity to contribute and help sponsor this event.

This year they had 258 entries from Primary Schools and 58 entries from Comprehensive Schools across Wales.

250 children, aged 7 – 14, and teachers attended the event in the Richard Ley Development centre.

The organisers ran a live link and 4000 people watched the event stream. At the end of the day, 2500 votes were cast for the winning entries.

The competition's prize giving event was hosted by Lucy Owen (a BBC Wales News Presenter) on Tuesday the 4th December 2018.

This year there were 8 finalists and 1 special prize finalists prizes in 7 – 11 category and 11 – 14 category. The winners were:

7 – 11 Age Group

1st Prize £2000                       BlaenBaglan Primary

Due to the success of this and last years' events, the DVLA will make this an annual event with the aim of inspiring and cheering on young coders of future generations.

At Convene, we believe that coding and computing skills are necessary for the next generation of professionals and believe that an interest in these skills should be nurtured in a practical learning environment, like the challenges the DVLA set up. We look forward to sponsoring this event for many years to come.
