From 24 to 25 May 2022, we attended the Climate Change and Sustainability in Housing Conference. This was a great opportunity to connect virtually with peers and colleagues around the country to discuss the future of sustainability in the housing sector.

In the past year, we’ve had the chance to take part in several National Housing Federation conferences - for associations big and small. The drive towards sustainable tenant protection has been high on the agenda at each one with some great talks on the subject. That’s why we were particularly excited to spend two days considering new environmental standards and decarbonisation initiatives.

We were up bright and early in the first day for Convene’s sponsored event on transforming your ESG reporting. ESG reporting can be a complex topic yet is incredibly important for sustainable governance.

Our own consultant Arturo Dell took part in an engaging discussion with Julian Beaney from Orbit Group on creating a flexible reporting structure. Led by Chair Sarauniya Shehu, they were able to tackle many of the most pressing questions for housing organisations.

At Convene, we’ve been working on our own reporting tool: Convene ESG. Our aim is to alleviate some of the challenges of data gathering, performance tracking, and reporting so organisations can reduce their carbon footprint.

We are currently working with a number of existing Convene housing customers as part of our early adopters programme. Through their valuable feedback, we will together continue to develop and fine-tune our platform, delivering a robust end-to-end ESG experience. With our support, all housing associations can move towards net zero and carbon neutrality.

Over the two days, we got to hear many inspiring talks on approaches to the climate crisis. From assessing existing homes to future proofing new homes, the conference was a great reminder of what industries can achieve when they come together.

Thank you to everyone involved in the conference! We look forward to our next conference which will be the NHF’s Housing Governance Conference on June 23 for another opportunity to meet and share on the future of housing.
